About the World of Poetry
Bob Holman (Executive Producer), a partner at Washington Square Arts & Films, is a poet (7 books, 2 anthologies edited, 1 CD) and performer (2 week European tour and 3 week US tour in 1998; commissioned in 1998 by the Frankfurt Buchmesse to create their 50th anniversary poem for an intimate dinner party of 4,000). He has been the host of poetry Web sites for NewsCorporation (iGuide, 1995-6) and The Mining Co. (1996-ongoing: http://poetry.miningco.com). He was a founding co-director for the revitalized Nuyorican Poets Cafe from 1989-1996, where he popularized the infamous poetry slams and created a touring company of poets. In 1996, he co-founded Mouth Almighty/Mercury Records, the world's only poetry CD label with major distribution.

A pioneer in the collaboration of poetry and television, his first poetry video, "sweat'n'sex'n'politics" was introduced by Lou Reed at The Public Theater in 1985; from 1986-1994 he produced over 50 "Poetry Spots" for WNYC-TV -- the series won three Emmys during that time. Since 1991, he has worked with Josh Blum to produce the breakthrough PBS poetry video programs, Words in Your Face and The United States of Poetry. In 1998, he was appointed Visiting Professor in Writing at Bard College, where he teaches "Exploding Text: Poetry in Performance."
